We have taken the helm firmly and worked hard to protect our beloved Pals Beach every day of 2020. The dunes, pine forests, animals and plants form a unique habitat of the utmost importance to preserve.
Our efforts have been focused on four major challenges, which we have successfully overcome thanks to a committed team and your support.
Renaturation of Radio Liberty

Avoid the construction of the project Aqvam project, disrespectful of habitats and which would overcrowd Pals Beach with more than 250,000 new visitors a year.

We have influenced the Parliament of Catalonia until it passed a Resolution urging the project's rejection, the renaturalisation of the habitats and the removal of some of the remaining buildings, all while respecting the archaeological remains.
We nevertheless insist on the need to restore some existing buildings in a very poor state to create a museum and research centre that studies and publicises the natural values of Pals Beach, the historical importance of the transmitter during the Cold War and the site of the seaside village of Pals, demolishing the rest of the buildings, de-urbanising the land and expanding the area to be protected. Radio Liberty Signage

To denounce the poor condition of Radio Liberty and report the vandalism and irregular movement of people towards Pals Beach via the abandoned facilities in this high fire-risk area.

We have secured the signposting of a new trail through the Natural Park to prevent users from damaging the dunes, trampling on animal and plant species or harming the abandoned Radio Liberty facilities, as well as visits by rural officers and the SEPRONA.
But now it is necessary to call for the restoration of surveillance to prevent further damage to the archaeological remains of the seaside village, the area's flora and fauna, as well as the historic remains of the transmitter that could be used in the future Radio Liberty and Cold War museum. Creation of the Coastal Observatory

Acquire land of high scenic value along the coastline to preserve it and accompany it with a programme that balances protection and sustainable development.

We went to the Parliament of Catalonia's Regional Planning Committee to ask the representatives of the political groups to include the creation of the Coastal Conservancy in the Coastal Law. Ultimately, the Parliament decided, without a single vote against, to amend the Coastal Law to establish the Conservancy within a year.
But now it is essential to press for the immediate creation of this institution, providing it with an annual budget for the acquisition of land with high natural and scenic value at risk of degradation or urbanisation, as well as for the management and conservation of those lands, which also include Platja de Pals.
Protection against a large housing development

Avoid the construction of a further 3,500 homes, especially since most will be second homes in Pals Beach and will destroy habitats of priority community interest.

We have succeeded in getting the Generalitat to initially approve the PDU (Master Plan for Unsustainable Lands on the Costa Brava), reducing construction by nearly 1,500 homes and suspending licences during its processing.
But the reduction is insufficient, still allowing the construction of more than 2,000 homes at Platja de Pals, with a significant destructive impact on priority habitats of community interest such as wetlands and rice paddies in the Jonquers area, or pine forests on coastal and continental dunes at Rodors 1, 2 and 3, in the Rodors area, Pals Mar (the northern sector of Interpals), Pineda de Pals or the Vaixell sector.
